In real life, I do discuss food exactly like how I write in my food review articles. As always my food reviews are scored only on what I've tried and the service expected of that type of establishment.

The zombie/superhero/comedy mash up you've been waiting for
Who likes a shake up of the zombie genre? Pop culture is filled with them from video games to film and TV. Who knew flsh eating reanimated corpses could be so popular? The Walking Dead is successful not only due to the zombies but because it shows the psychological problems that can arise in a post-apocalyptic world. The zombie genre is survivalist at its core. Izombie sidesteps apocalyptic horror and begins small.

We're taken to the accidental start and zombification is actually very manageable provided the infected eat brains once in a while. The title sequence is a nod to the show's comic roots. An ill-fated boat party turns Olivia 'Liv' Moore (instead of Gwen from the comics) an aspiring doctor into a zombie. Luckily for Liv, she can stay functional by working as a coroner.
Liv is less zombie and more a diseased superhero of sorts. Comedy comes naturally to the show. It's refreshing that her boss, Ravi figures it out and takes on the take of curing her. We learn that zombification causes albino colouring and the tastebuds to be dulled so that a lot of hot sauce is needed. These facts become more important as more and more zombies live among us.
Another side effect is that eating brains gives Liv the ability to relive some of the deceased's memories. Like visions these are spontaneous and Liv finds herself as a 'mystic' for homicide Detective Babineaux. Being a zombie turns out to be wonderful for fighting crime. Liv can go into 'full blown zombie mode' (like being the Hulk minus being big and green) whenever its needed.
Through trial and error, Liv and Ravi slowly piece together more of zombie biology. The infection can be spread through a scratch. Not eating brains causes degeneration into classic zombies. A chance encounter leads them to Blaine, Liv's sire (to borrow the word from vampire mythology, the one who gave her the curse). Drug dealer turned zombie, Blaine is surprisingly entrepreneurial and is setup as Liv's nemesis.
The general population have no idea about zombies. Liv's mum, brother and her best friend Peyton have no idea why Liv changed dramatically. Liv's ex-fiance Major, who is a social worker with a heart of gold, has no idea why she broke off the wedding. With the burden of secrecy and her crime fighting achievements, Liv's encounter with the new zombie on the block, Lowell becomes a game changer. As Liv's unsuspecting loved ones come closer to the truth, they become increasingly entwined in Blaine's world. Chaos is inevitable.

Izombie is the comedy/superhero/zombie mash-up you have been waiting for. This is more than a mere police procedural or a zombie apocalypse. New possibilities and new rules makes iZombie a genre breaking show. You'll want it more than they want brains.
