Izakaya Japanese Cuisine

Taking the place of Mandarin Duck, is the latest stall to be opened at
Chinatown Plaza Food Court . The name reflects the fact that all the dishes offered can be expected to be seen at a Japanese Izakaya – an informal Japanese pub where dishes are typically enjoyed together with alcoholic drinks.
Listed as a special offer during our visit, the Japanese Chicken Fried Rice with Omelette had a fried rice filling of fluffy grains of rice with a delectable savoury flavour. The omelette topping the fried rice was soft and fluffy and what tasted like teriyaki sauce added a hint of sweetness to the dish. A scattering of herbs over the omelette completed the dish.
Among the selection of rice bowl dishes known as "don", their Gyudon had beef that was not too tough. The beef was well partnered by the soft egg it was cooked with. The dish also included pickled ginger that can be eaten with the beef if you desire to add a bit of sharpness to the dish. All their main dishes come with a bowl of miso soup.
Great for those who want something not too filling, their Okonomiyaki (Japanese savoury pancake) had a generous amount of cabbage with an appetizing golden brown exterior. While not immediately obvious, it included chicken which made it taste a bit different from the ones we have tried so far. As expected, the dish was topped with Okonomiyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise to give it the flavour you would expect from Okonomiyaki.
Diners have full freedom of choosing where they want to sit in the food court. Their dishes tend to be slightly cheaper than that of other stalls at the Chinatown Plaza Food Court which is great for those who want an affordable option.
