After tragically losing two families members to suicide, Sonia Muraca and her sisters decided to launch the 'It's Okay to Talk About Suicide Movie Fundraiser', to be held on Thursday 7th April at the Palace Balwyn Cinema at 6pm.

Suicide and depression are silent killers that leave victims suffering in silence. At some point, every Australian will face suicide either directly or indirectly and knowing how to recognise symptoms could potentially save a life. Unfortunately there is still a lot of stigma associated with suicide and depression and in order for this to change we need an open forum to freely discuss suicide and engage in dialogue. "12 months ago our cousin Cathy took her own life after battling depression and mental illness for many years. It is a decision that is sadly taken by so many", says event organiser, Sonia. "For her (Cathy's) anniversary, we would like to create more awareness and continue to celebrate her life and legacy. As a family we have lost our grandfather and now cousin to such a debilitating disease. We are passionate about making a difference, removing the stigma and sharing the wisdom that it is okay to talk about suicide! No person should suffer alone, we are all one and we are all connected. We are one tribe!"

Passionate about the cause, the Muraca sisters will be screening, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 at a cost of $25 including popcorn and a drink. Bookings will need to be made prior to the 1st April. "Cathy was involved with a local community church and they are passionate about connecting others and we would like to help them with their cause. They currently want to purchase a coffee machine so that people who may be isolated have a reason to stop by, have a chat and connect," explains Sonia.According to Lifeline, deaths by suicide have reached a ten-year peak and remain the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15 and 44. It's time to band together and get the conversation started, as no one deserves to feel alone.RSVP 1st APRIL
