Are you familiar with yarn bombing? While we've all heard of water-bombing and photo-bombing, yarn bombing – the adornment of ordinary, everyday objects with colourfully knitted and crocheted embellishments - is another quirky craze that has been gathering momentum around the world over the last decade or so. If you've been caught up in the current enthusiam for these traditional country crafts, perhaps you'd like to head south to Waroona this November for 'It's a Yarn Thing' – a vibrant celebration of fabric art and yarn bombing – which is to be held in conjunction with the town's Sea to ART Exhibition.

Situated approximately 112 kilometres south of Perth, Waroona is a quaint little town that's home to an enthusiastic group of crafters – all eager to use their talents to raise funds for the St John Ambulance, Waroona sub-branch. Throughout November, the town will be adorned with a weird and wonderful variety of yarn-bombed masterpieces including cosied-up trees, brightly-coloured crocheted flowers and bugs in local gardens, and plenty of other surprises.

If you're looking for something a little bit different for this year's Christmas presents, there will also be a range of gorgeous handmade yarn items for sale at Waroona Visitors Centre and Gallery. There will even be a special Cosy Corner, full of all sorts of knitted, felted, woven and crocheted tea cosies – perhaps the perfect gift for a hard-to-buy-for friend or family-member. Those of you who are expert yarn artists are also cordially invited to donate some of your best creations – the more items there are for sale, the more money can be made for St John's Ambulance – specifically towards updating the ambulance officer training equipment at the local sub-branch.

In a nutshell, if you love yarn arts such as knitting, crochet and felting, and are always looking for quirky, one-of-a-kind community events, a visit to Waroona for 'It's a Yarn Thing' should definitely be on the cards this November. Whether you'd like to help the locals with their yarn-bombing projects, purchase some of the beautiful handmade creations from the Visitors Centre, or simply donate some yarn products so they can be used by other crafters, your contribution will be warmly welcomed.

'It's a Yarn Thing' will be taking place at Waroona Visitors Centre and Gallery, as well as at various other locations along the South West Highway, throughout November. The Sea to ART exhibition at the gallery will be open from 9.30am until 3.30pm seven days a week, and the yarn bombed outdoor masterpieces can be admired at any time of the day or night. Entry to the exhibition is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

Waroona Visitors Centre and Gallery is located at 37 South West Highway in Waroona. To learn more about 'It's a Yarn Thing' take a look at this Facebook page . Alternatively, phone Tracy Goldsworthy on 08 9733 1506 or email [email protected].
