South Australia's Italian community shared its regional food, music and fashion with the rest of the community through Carnevale in February. Those who missed the vibrant culture and traditions of Italy can experience a tasty slice of la dolce vita when the Lavazza Italian Film Festival comes to town in October. This much anticipated annual festival brings Italy to Adelaide where you can enjoy its sights and sounds through the big screen without ever leaving Australia.
From 2 to 22 October, Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas will be screening a line up of 35 show-stopping new features and documentaries and one glamorous classic. These top-notch films are curated by Festival Director Elysia Zeccola-Hill. She also brought Italian screen goddess, Nadir Caselli to help open the Festival in Melbourne and Sydney. Here are some festival highlights to help you, your family and friends enjoy an October month filled with the best of Italy movies.

A lonely Hero - This latest film from Venice Golden Lion winning director Gianni Amelio revolves around a small everyday hero from Milan who starts a new "substitute" job every day with a deep moral consistency as he reinvents himself with each new day. Don't miss this Chaplinesque odyssey through the world of temping starring popular actor and comedian Antonio Albanese.

Quiet Bliss - Set against the radiant southern Italian landscape is the latest heart warming drama from award-winning director Edoardo Winspeare. The film revolves around 3 generations of women who are forced to seek refuge in their their family's Salento olive grove after the family-run textile factory collapses and struggle to keep the wolf from the door.

The Worst Christmas of My Life - Based on the British sitcom of the same name, this comedy revolves around the character Paolo played by the charming Fabio De Luigi. He inadvertently instigates hilarious disasters when the extended family spends Christmas at their bosses' castle in northern Italy. This is a sequel to the equally successful 'The Worst Week of My Life' produced by Alessandro Genovesi.

Song of Napoli - L'aperitivo di Peroni and Enoteca Sileno present a special event on 12 October alongside the screening of this film at Palace Nova Eastend Cinema. 'Song of Napoli' is a parody of modern-day Naples and its criminal underworld. The comedy revolves around a nerdy and exceptionally talented piano player, who is reluctantly enlisted to go undercover and help capture a Camorra boss. You can enjoy pre-film reception from 3.15pm with live entertainment Napoletano-style and drinks from Peroni and Enoteca Sileno.

I Can Quit Whenever I Want - From talented newcomer Sydney Sibilia, comes this biting parody on the plight of the Italian middle-class in the aftermath of the economic crisis. Fans of Breaking Bad and Ocean's Eleven will enjoy this comedy about a band of brilliant under-employed academics who turn to producing and trafficking synthetic drugs in order to make ends meet.

Marriage Italian Style - Enoteca Sileno and Connoisseur Gourmet Ice Cream present a special closing event alongside the screening of this film at Palace Nova Eastend Cinema on 22 October. 'Marriage Italian Style' is a Oscar-nominated classic from 1964 that was digitally restored and premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Now everyone in Adelaide can enjoy this timeless comedy starring the famed Sophia Loren, 50 years after its first release.
