Among the smorgasbord of films on offer is the comedy I Can Quit Whenever I Want (Smetto quando voglio)
Directed by Sydney Sibilia.
The running time is 100 mins. I was fortunate to be invited to see this film as a media preview.

I was sceptical about the gangster style of this film, as it appeared in the trailer, thinking it was more of a boy's movie. But I was pleasantly surprised. The film manages to convey loads of wit and verve and does its best to encapsulate the loud, freewheeling, assertive Italian style of comedy.

The premise follows a group of academics struggling to earn a living that turn to crime.
Proving that crime does pay, but only for a short term high before it all begins to come crashing down.

The plot has a familiar ring to it, but it wasn't until I had watched the film that I recalled close comparisons to the drama Breaking Bad.

This didn't detract from my enjoyment of the movie. But I guess in the movie business everybody is sharing ideas.

It is worth going along for the ride on this frantic screwball style of caper film.

Tickets to the much loved Lavazza Italian Film Festival are available now.
Adelaide session times available here

It seems as if the program has something for everyone.

Screening exclusively at the Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas from October 2-22.

Any film buffs will be excited by the program on offer. It is with sadness that Australian audiences will soon be saying goodbye to the cinema appreciation and critiques of Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton. Hosts of the long running At the Movies on the ABC. Where will we be without there considerable knowledge, enthusiasm and promotion of film.
