Italian Dining in Newtown: Top Level Woodfired Pizza Bar and Gelatomassi

Home > Sydney > Restaurants | Food and Wine
Published February 28th 2011
There is no shortage of food options in Newtown. Whether you fancy Thai, Indian or Lebanese - you will find something to fix your craving. If you're in the mood for authentic and delicious Italian food, head straight to Top Level Woodfired Pizza Bar.

The woodfire pizzas at Top Level are cooked the Italian way, thin crusts with minimal but delicious toppings. The Canne pizza is my favourite - tomato, prosciutto and basil. The restaurant owner Ruggiero Lattanzio knows what he's doing, as he previously owned a successful pizza restaurant in Haberfield.

When reading the pasta menu in Italian you may forget whether you are in Sydney or Rome. Don't let this scare you off as the pasta is too good to miss. If you don't have an Italian phrase book, just ask the friendly staff.

My only advice is save room for desert Gelatomassi is just a few doors down from Top Level and the La Rosa brothers 'Salvatore and Ciccio' make fabulous gelato.

Gelatomassi
Choosing a flavour can be difficult

Gelatomassi is an entertaining place to spend an evening.
Enjoy coffee and gelato while soaking up the eclectic atmosphere of Newtown. The difficult part is choosing a flavour; Apple Pie, Banana Choc Swirl, Peanut Butter or Tim Tam Biscuit. The only sensible thing to do is, visit Gelatomassi regularly and try a new flavour each time.
