ISSHO Editions is a new FREE online program from the Japan Foundation , Sydney. Launching on the last day of June 2020, the program consists of pre-recorded videos and livestreams; sharing creativity, knowledge and connectivity. A four-part series showcasing Japanese cultural practices, the event schedule is as follows with Japan Foundation's YouTube videos found HERE .

Kicking off with Pop Japan , the videos explore the history and current climate of local cosplayers. It offers practical cosplay tips with makeup and costume tutorials. You can catch the videos on a brief history of Cosplay and a walk through the makeup process, comparing cosplay makeup techniques for male and female characters HERE . The Livestream Workshop is on Sat 4 Jul at 11am AEST.


7, 9 & 11 Jul at 11am each day - get creative with cute Japanese-Inspired Craft Activities . The videos for the 9th and 11th premier and the Livestream Workshop Facebook event on the 11th can be found HERE . You'll learn simple binding, folding and decorating techniques on the 7th and learn to design your own hanko (stamps) and origami folding techniques on the 9th. At the livestream workshop, you'll learn how to make 3 kinds of Japanese stamp designs using common items around the house. If you'd like to follow along, you'll find the list of materials required on the page via the link given.

21, 23 & 25 Jul at 11am each day, again, as above you'll find details of the premier videos for the first two dates and the livestream workshop Facebook Tradition and Rhythm in Japanese Music event on the last date HERE . Showcasing the traditional sounds of Japan, two intimate at-home concerts are presented along with a fun percussion livestream workshop featuring traditional Japanese and Ainu instruments including shamisen, taiko drums and tonkori performed by musicians established as experts in their artform. As aforementioned, all these events are FREE and bookings are not required.


28, 30 Jul & 1 Aug at 11am each day, immerse yourself in vibrant practices of Japanese Dancing and Expressions of the Body in Fluid Forms . Details of the 2 premiere videos and Facebook workshop event can be found HERE . Enjoy a performance film on the first date and a brief walk through the history of Butoh on the second. The livestream workshop will teach you the basic philosophy and principles of Butoh.
