Sailing fanatics or not, there's something here for you from Sunday 1 to Sunday 8 December 2013.
Currently in its fifth year, this world class Olympic sailing competition is Southern Hemisphere's leading event for Olympic class yachts. Throughout the week, the premier Sandringham Yacht Club is to become the place to be for witnessing world class sailing as well as taking part in other fantastic lifestyle events for all ages.
In addition to gathering best of the best of international and interstate sailors to Victoria, this event also provides the chance for amateur and junior athletes to race. There is an abundance of exceptional onshore events so read on for the guide to these events.
On the first day of the event, the
Opening Ceremony and School's Team Racing will take place with Bruce Griffiths welcoming Olympic athletes competing as well as all Invited Classes as well as hundreds of school students in action on the bay.
Discover Sailing Week is a great program for school children and parents who want to experience the thrill of sailing and gain an understanding of water safety. From Tuesday 3 to Friday 6 December, there will be supervised sails for children, beach games and art activities developing a safety awareness around water.
Celebrate Australia's America's Cup heroes at
Melbourne Dinner on Tuesday 3 December for an evening of fabulous fun. Get exclusive insights and a Q&A session with the champions together with pre-dinner drinks and canapés on the balcony followed by a scrumptious sit-down meal. Tickets are $125 per person. Bookings are essential and must be made before Friday 22 November.
Absorb yourself in the exciting action on water on Friday 6 December at
Melbourne Couta Boat Challenge and Luncheon . Whether you're corporate, an individual, a group or an event sponsor, this is your opportunity to shine. Get your adrenalin pumping for a race on Port Phillip on the iconic Couta boats before a delightful lunch at the Sandringham Yacht Club Harbour View Restaurant.
As part of the
Sail Melbourne Invited Class Program , a whole heap of Junior Youth and Olympic Feeder classes have been organised for ambitious young sailors from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 December. Spectators can view the action from the surrounds of Sandringham Yacht Club for free to support these Olympians.
Witness some kiteboarding extravaganza for free on Hampton Beach by the best Australian and international competitors from Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 December at
Melbourne Kiteboarding . This will definitely delight and thrill the crowds.
Last but the least, is the
Melbourne Medal Races and Summer of Sailing Festival from Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 December which will conclude the week-long 2013 Melbourne. Watch Olympic sailors from around the world compete for the number one title while chilling and relaxing on the balcony of Sandringham Yacht Club to summer tunes. What's more Sandringham Beach will be packed with families taking advantage of the numerous on-water and onshore activities on offer such as paddle boarding, windsurfing, face painting, and heaps more.
