Ipswich City Council is encouraging everyone to Experience Nature 40 ways in 40 days. Get out and explore the natural places of Ipswich during May and June and join a number of walks, talks and tours being hosted by the Council to encourage the residents to get out there. It also showcases initiatives and innovation surrounding the sustainable management of natural resources, and an opportunity to hear from expert guest speakers as they share valuable insight to important environmental topics facing Ipswich and beyond.

  • Sun 4 Jun - Moonrise Hike, White Rock
  • Sat 10 Jun - Bird Walk with Professor Hugh Possingham
  • Sat 10 Jun - Family Day

    The mindfulness trail walk will connect you to all the sights, sounds, textures and scents of nature with like minded others. It's a great strategy to calm a busy mind by leaving the hustle and bustle behind. Be sure to take water and wear comfortable walking shoes and suitable clothing for the event.

    The moonrise hike on a late afternoon is a guided hike to watch the full moon rise just as the sun sets over the beautiful views from the main ridge lookout in the White Rock – Spring Mountain Conservation Estate. Approximate a 3 hour walk, be sure to bring snacks, water, headlamps/torches for yourself.

    The 1.5 hour bird walk with Professor Hugh Possingham is an educational guided tour with this conservation biologist and passionate bird watcher. Take in the eucalypt forests while listening and looking out for over 175 different bird species including the wedge-tailed eagle, rufous whistler, and the threatened black breasted button quail that call the estate home.

    Family Day celebrates World Environment Day with expert guest speakers who will share valuable insight into important environmental topics facing Ipswich and beyond. There'll be a range of talks, demonstrations and activities for every age with a focus on biodiversity and the environmental and conservation value of Enviroplan . Be welcomed with a traditional performance and there's plenty entertainment and activities for the kids along with food trucks and more. An outdoor events, dress accordingly and bring cash for food and product purchases.
