Freak phone accidents are not uncommon. Your phone may have slipped out of your hand and hit the ground at just the right angle for a cracked screen. Perhaps it was the victim of that unfortunate drink spill. Or maybe a silicon ball, that just had to be the perfect size, got stuck in the earphone jack. Yes, as ridiculous as this may sound, this was the first-world problem I was faced with the other week!

I know not being able to listen to music on that commute home isn't the end of the world, but one could say it was ball-thering me a lot. I tried the array of suggestions people made to me to get it out such as sticking a pin in, in hope of dislodging it, and trying to suck it out with a vacuum. This free floating silicon from the depths of my handbag was stubborn though. It wasn't going anywhere.

The next resort of course, was Apple. While the people at the Genius bars were friendly and tried their best to solve this problem, which admittedly was one of the strangest they'd seen in a while, their last proposal was nothing short of a $300 hole in my wallet. No thanks.

I was pretty desperate at 6pm on a Monday. I wanted a quick repair. Done as quickly as possible, and ideally, as budget-friendly as could be. Google search and maps assisted me in finding a few phone stores around the CBD that did iPhone repairs. However it turned out they were either closed when I turned up, or were unable to do anything other than replace the whole bottom component of the phone for prices between about $60 and $150.

Just as I was about to give up all hope for the day I rang the Fone Fix shop on Pitt Street. My first question was whether they were currently open. The answer was yes. While I respect business hours, it was nice to see there existed some people who understood the urgency of iPhone dilemmas. The man on the phone was very helpful in guiding me to the rather unlikely looking complex their shop is hidden in - shop 107 at 250 Pitt Street for the record.

Fone Fix came to my rescue alright! The man got a pair of fine tweezers out after taking a look at another one of the silicon balls still loose in my bag. Within about five seconds he managed to dislodge the now mangled ball from my headphone jack. He also encouraged that I give my headphones a go to check if all was still functioning properly. How helpful is this compared to all the other things I'd tried? To top this impeccable service off, no reimbursement was requested - of course, other than a review, which I am more than happy to give.

When you have a problem with your phone - and many are the victims of this - all you need is someone with the right tools, who knows just what they are doing. Fone Fix are these people. To relieve you of unnecessary expenses, their prices generally look reasonable. I would recommend paying these guys a visit either on Pitt Street or in Bondi Junction as a first rather than a last resort. Next time I have a phone incident, which, touch wood, hopefully won't happen in the near future, I know just where I'm heading first!
