Each week, you will playfully explore colours, patterns and variety of mixed media techniques, finding relaxation in the creative process.
Run by artist Soma Datta (who also runs Wine & Art events at the centre), this mixed-media course is about finding respite through art. Through a series of step by step art lessons, participants learn how to paint intuitively and expressively using a variety of mediums and materials.
But while you will be creating, you won't learn how to be creative (you've already got that inside you). What you will learn is how to let go, and by doing that, you'll be working on your mental fitness strategy for self-care.
Soma will teach participants:
a variety of mixed media art techniques such as resist, stencilling, mark-making, pattern-making and layering.
how to embrace spontaneity and celebrate happy accidents though creative play.
how to maintain colour vibrancy in paintings by following basic colour theory guidelines.
easy intuitive art techniques for personal expression, such as painting to music and painting blindfolded.
how to let go and find relaxation in the creative process rather than focusing on the outcome.
I've been to a Wine & Art night with Soma and she has a patient and warm manner that makes you want to let go and let creative expression take flight. What she focuses on is spontaneity and "there are no mistakes" encouragement. Mistakes are happy accidents – what can you turn them into? And while the Wine & Art nights are great for connecting with others, her intuitive art course promises to connect you to your soul.
If you're still a little unsure, thinking you can't paint, let go of that worry. No previous experience or artistic ability required. All you need is a desire to let go and let creativity happen.
The eight-week course starts February 12, 2020. Classes run from 9.30am to noon. The introductory cost for the course is $157 and includes all material costs and four projects to take home. Spaces are limited, so it's best to book early.
