Philosophy means the love of wisdom. Mindful wisdom is knowledge and love working together. Our course in practical philosophy makes mindfulness practical.
Wisdom is within. It simply needs to be remembered and the introductory course draws this memory out. It is the first step on this journey of self-discovery.
Wisdom Within is designed to help students to regain their natural sense of wonder, gaining access to their inner happiness, wisdom, and strength. It is not an academic survey of great philosophical ideas as one might find in a university.
It is an introduction to a series of proven principles that enable students to attain self-knowledge and better their lives through reasonable, compassionate living. The proof of Practical Philosophy's effectiveness is found in personal experience.
The course asks, Who am I? and gives practical ways to explore the answer. It considers wisdom and how it is acquired; levels of awareness and consciousness; the power of reason; the nature of beauty; and the unity behind and through everything
Students engage in experiential classes—that are participatory and not lectures—in the good company of like-minded seekers with diverse backgrounds, and emerge with time-tested principles and practices to apply in daily living and a toolbox of skills informed by the wisdom of great philosophers.
"I guess if you are thinking of coming on a course like this you are probably looking for answers to the big questions you know, what is the meaning of life? where did we come from, where are we going to and I think by coming on this course you will be surrounded by people that are on the same journey and it's ok not to know." Student.
The School of Philosophy, Melbourne is hosting this enlightening 10-week introduction to Practical Philosophy course starting in January.

It is presented in branches in Melbourne City, Hawthorn, Yarraville, Croydon, Geelong, Ballarat and Castlemaine.
"Love, Beauty, Wisdom they all strangely brought a sense of peace and a sense also of excitement about life – so that kind of anomaly - like this great excitement that I wake up with and a level of peace and acceptance too. Seems like a strange mix but that is how it was for me." Student.
