The title may be new, but the concept is nothing out of the blue for fans of dance music. For over 10 years now, Inthemix has provided the latest in local and international dance music news. Affiliated with some of the best companies in the industry such as Sony, the annual Inthemix Top 50 has been refined to Inthemix Awards 2011.
Already in its 9th edition of awards, ITM headquarters and design team have refurbished the popular Top 50 awards night. Previously known as ITM Top 50, the ceremony showcases the best in dance music locally and internationally. Primarily focusing on the top 50 DJs in the nation, other categories include best festival and best international DJ, just to name a few.
The international #1 slot in the competition has been hosted by the likes of Armin van Buuren and Tiesto. Festivals such as Future Music and Stereosonic have shared #1 spots in the best festival categories, however it is one particular category which brings the most attention. That is of course who will be Australia's number #1 DJ. In previous years, Queensland trance titan Tydi held the #1 spot for 2009, with it being taken in 2010 by Canberra's Aston Shuffle.
But who could it possibly be this year? Perhaps Tydi again who has had a rather busy twelve months, working on his Global Soundsystem radio show, perhaps it will be the Swedish House Mafia protege Dirty South, or perhaps the Aston Shuffle will rise again to the #1 spot. This year the community of dance music lovers will see the 2011 DJ poll contested yet again, and only time will tell who will be Australia's Number #1 DJ.
Voting dates have been confirmed, commencing on Monday July 18th and closing on August 14th, with an awards ceremony in Sydney on Wednesday August 24th.
Together with the votes and award ceremony are several CD cases which will no doubt be destroyed after the mammoth collection of club dates booked in. Twelve stops from July 22nd to August 13th will showcase some of Australia's finest acts, each proving their 'gift' and 'talent' in music to take the #1 prize.
And what better news to find out that each of these events are completely free. All you have to do is RSVP on the Inthemix website to the corresponding event that you want to attend. There are twelve nights each as good as the other, so secure your spot and RSVP.
Whether or not dance music is your thing, why not simply just try it out? It's free and would no doubt be a promised good night out with friends.
