John Paul Young, or JPY as he is affectionately known, is an Australian rock and pop icon whose career began 50 years ago. I had the pleasure of interviewing John Paul Young and 'love was really in the air'. It is a fabulous interview and you can listen to it here on my -
blog post.
John Paul Young, of
Love is in the Air fame, was interviewed on
Sunrise about his collaboration with
The Men's Shed organisation. This gave me a reason to contact JPY because I have written a book titled
Two Men in a Shed where two men meet and become friends at a men's shed.
So, through his publicist we organised a date to chat about his music career and his latest tour -
JPY 50 Years Young - The Anniversary Tour featuring The Allstar Band.
Tickets are available
here.
We talked about how we both became involved with the Men's Shed organisation. They are a great place for retired men to use their skills and make long-lasting friendships. I met the men of the Hunter's Hill Men's Shed whilst writing my book and they are a friendly bunch. The photo of the shed is on the front cover of my book. If you're interested in joining one, you can find out more information
here.
Apart from a small technical hitch with Zoom audio, we eventually managed to do the interview and discuss John's long career in music (and how
Love is in the Air came about), his theatrical appearances, radio, and television (the Countdown years). We also discussed his latest collaboration with the Men's Shed organisation. He has written a song for them and also does a podcast.
You can listen to the Men's Shed song here -
It was a highlight of my career to speak with John Paul Young and I hope you enjoy listening to my interview with him. I look forward to being interviewed on his podcast in the near future as well.
John Paul Young, best wishes for a great anniversary tour and thanks for taking the time to talk to me.
