With the popular internet sensation and virality of everything cat-related in recent times, it is not surprising that the first ever Internet Cat Video Festival is making an appearance in the offline world. Taking place at the Northbridge Piazza on Saturday 17th January 2015 from 5pm to 8:30pm, this free festival is a celebration of everything to do with these sometimes lovable, other times feisty furry friends.


In partnership with the Cat Haven , the City of Perth has brought offline the ever-increasing wave of online cat videos to cat lovers everywhere. Visitors can enjoy many highlights of the festival, which includes a compilation of 85 clips, ranging from six second Vine videos to locally made cat videos and short films in a specially curated program not available as a collection online. Running on the day as part of the Free Flicks for Kids program is the film A Cat in Paris (rated PG) showing from 5:30pm, followed by the internet cat video showreel at 7pm. This Oscar nominated film for best animated feature film follows the adventure tale of a common household cat who lives both a normal and an unsuspecting superhero life.

Other activities at the family friendly festival include face painting for a gold coin donation with all proceeds on the day going to Cat Haven. Visitors can also pet some real kittens in the kitten cuddling area until 7pm, as well as have the opportunity to learn about cat care and adoption.


There is free entry to the and no tickets or bookings are required. As there is no reserved seating available, visitors are advised to pack a picnic and arrive early to grab a beanbag and secure spots on the grass. Despite this being a cat festival, guests are strongly encouraged to leave pets at home as the festival is expected to be very crowded and noisy.
