Help disadvantaged women by attending one of these events
International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the "economic, political and social achievements of women". It is also a day to consider how women are achieving their struggle for peace and equality, which not all women throughout the world now have. There are many places around the world where women are still "second-class citizens" and do not even have the basic rights that their men folk have.

The actual day is on the 8th March, however, functions vary throughout the month of March each year.

* UN Women National Committee (NC) Australia hosts Australia's largest International Women's Day (IWD) celebrations in March each year.

This is in the form of a breakfast and is in order to unite, network and make a commitment to ending violence and oppression against women.

This year, it will be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, at 21 Mounts Bay Rd, Perth on 8th March from 7.00 am to 9.00 am. The cost is $77 and you can buy your tickets here.

* Hancock Prospecting International Women's Day Luncheon 2018
The annual International Women's Day Luncheon is celebrating its 13th Anniversary on Friday 23rd March, 2018 at 11:30 am at Crown Perth. This is put on by Momentum For Australia and Momentum Forum Events.

Every year, IWD is held in support of the Kiss Violence Against Women Goodbye! campaign, which is run by this charity.

At this event, the 2018 Momentum Most Inspiring Woman of the Year award will be presented to Jelena Dokic, well known for her tennis prowess, now an Australian tennis coach, former professional tennis player, and also a published author.

This signature event includes a 3-course gourmet lunch, a charity live auction and raffle, the presentation of the 2018 Wonder Woman award, and a fashion parade.

You can see the highlights of last year's event at this link:

Tickets are available at the Eventbrite site.

The cost of tickets are $165 per person and for a table of 10 $1600, with VIP Corporate Tables of ten with prime positioning, costing $3000.

* Women in Focus Charity Event
International Women's Day is important to acknowledge women's achievements and to highlight the important work that still needs to be done to create a better world for many women around the world.

To celebrate this, CommBank's Women in Focus are hosting an event at Frasers in Kings Park. Here they will raise funds and support for different community initiatives which empower women through education, business and financial literacy programmes.

They will also have some interesting speakers, who are leaders in their particular field and working to build better communities.

One of these speakers this year will be: Honourable Judi Moylan AO - Independent President and Chair, Diabetes Australia

The Honourable Judi Moylan was elected to the federal Seat of Pearce in 1993 and retired in 2013, having served as the Minister for Family Services and Minister for the Status of Women.

In 2013, she became the Independent President and Chair of the Board of Diabetes Australia.

* International Women's Day 2018 Breakfast hosted by Zonta Club of Peel
This event will be held on Thursday 8th March, 2018, from 6:30 am to 9:00 am, at the Mandurah Offshore Fishing & Sailing Club, at 115 Breakwater Parade, Mandurah, and the speaker will be Sonja Cox who was the 2013 Telstra WA Woman of the year.

Sonja worked for the Department of Justice in Victoria and then relocated to WA's Department of Corrective Services in 1996.

Her career spanned some 18 years with Corrections, in which time Sonja had roles in community corrections adult custodial and victim services.

As a result of her outstanding contribution to the public sector, Sonja won the Community and Government sector category of the Telstra Business Women's Award, as well as the overall 2013 Telstra WA Business Woman of the Year.

Tickets are $43 and you can get them at this Eventbrite site.

* International Women's Day Sparkling High Tea
This event will be held on Friday, 9th March, 2018 from 3 pm to 5 pm, at the Duxton Hotel, 1 St George's Terrace, Perth.

This high tea is to raise funds for Funds for Freedom and this is to support women and children to live a life free from domestic and family violence.

The Funds for Freedom (FFF) aims to help women make a fresh start after fleeing their home due to violence. They endeavour to give women and children a life that is free from fear and with love.

Tickets are $87 and you can buy them at the Eventbrite site.

Whichever event you chose to go to, you can rest assured that spending money on any of these events will go to a very good cause.
