International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the "economic, political and social achievements of women". It is also a day to consider how women are achieving their struggle for peace and equality, which not all women throughout the world now have. There are many places around the world where women are still "second-class citizens" and do not even have the basic rights that their men folk have.

The actual day is on the 8th March, however, functions vary throughout the month of March each year.

* UN Women National Committee (NC) Australia hosts Australia's largest International Women's Day (IWD) celebrations in March each year.

This is in the form of a breakfast and is in order to unite, network and make a commitment to ending violence and oppression against women.

This year, it will be held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, at 21 Mounts Bay Rd, Perth on 8th March from 7.00 am to 9.00 am. The cost is $77 and you can buy your tickets here.

* Hancock Prospecting International Women's Day Luncheon 2018
The annual International Women's Day Luncheon is celebrating its 13th Anniversary on Friday 23rd March, 2018 at 11:30 am at Crown Perth. This is put on by Momentum For Australia and Momentum Forum Events.

Every year, IWD is held in support of the Kiss Violence Against Women Goodbye! campaign, which is run by this charity.

At this event, the 2018 Momentum Most Inspiring Woman of the Year award will be presented to Jelena Dokic, well known for her tennis prowess, now an Australian tennis coach, former professional tennis player, and also a published author.

This signature event includes a 3-course gourmet lunch, a charity live auction and raffle, the presentation of the 2018 Wonder Woman award, and a fashion parade.

To celebrate this, CommBank's Women in Focus are hosting an event at Frasers in Kings Park. Here they will raise funds and support for different community initiatives which empower women through education, business and financial literacy programmes.

They will also have some interesting speakers, who are leaders in their particular field and working to build better communities.

One of these speakers this year will be: Honourable Judi Moylan AO - Independent President and Chair, Diabetes Australia

The Honourable Judi Moylan was elected to the federal Seat of Pearce in 1993 and retired in 2013, having served as the Minister for Family Services and Minister for the Status of Women.

In 2013, she became the Independent President and Chair of the Board of Diabetes Australia.
