New to Canberra, I love exploring this city and the secrets that it holds with my family.
Fairylights and food trucks after Floriade
Thousands of fairy lights will adorn Westside Acton Park for five nights over Floriade. Showcasing local designers, artists and gourmet food producers the markets will run with the backdrop of live music and a carnival atmosphere.
If you haven't been to Westside Acton Park before, it is a shipping container village of international food trucks around a large community space used for events such as this.
Westside Acton Park holds the popular weekly Sunday Markets, so stallholders from these markets are sure to be at the Twilight Markets as well as other talented artisans from Canberra and beyond. See their website and Facebook for more details about the Sunday markets.

The variety of food vans are a real highlight of this venue, with international flavours to enjoy whilst sitting on pallet furniture outside each van. This rustic set up makes a fun way to eat with the kids in this family friendly community space.
There is Thai, Laos and Vietnamese fare at Miss Vans, Middle Eastern BBQ from Habibiz, The One sells gourmet sandwiches, wings and tacos using their special sauce and Daana Traditional Indian will be opening soon, hopefully in time for this event.
For dessert, O'So Smoothie has salted caramel milkshakes to enjoy and Damn Fine Roasters (Canberra's only drive-thru coffee shop) has Italian icecream on offer.
To stay and enjoy the atmosphere, there is the Courtside Bar downstairs with local beer and wine to try, however for a birds eye view of the markets and Lake Burley Griffin head upstairs to The Aviary Rooftop bar. With rustic seating, full bar, live music and views out in both directions, this will be a relaxing place to sit back and rest your feet after a full day at Floriade.
The Aviary Rooftop Bar in the shipping container up the top...what a view!
The International Twilight Markets will be an enjoyable way to finish the day after exploring Floriade. Spread over five nights you can keep the festivities going time and time again and try something new each night from the delicious smelling food trucks after browsing the markets.
Then sit back and enjoy the variety of live music on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin...sounds good to me.
