On Friday 12th August, The New Globe Theatre in Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley will be host to the inaugural celebration of all things Michael Caine. The night's entertainment will include a screening of The Italian Job (1969) at 7.00pm, and the Alternative Country band Morris Micklewhite and The Black Jacks at 10.00pm. Doors open at 5.00pm.

Sir Michael Caine was born in London in 1933 as Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, and has appeared in 115 films over his distinctive career. He is well known for his working-class cockney accent and regarded as a British icon. His career began at 20, yet his breakthrough didn't come until the early 60s starring in a number of film roles such as Zulu, The Ipcress File, Alfie, and of course, The Italian Job.

Maurice Micklewhite first met the Black Jacks, a bunch of no good, drunken, cut throats after stowing aboard a tramp steamer heading from London Town to the Wild West of the United States of America. The rest is history.

Admission for this event is $10.00 per person with all profits going to Orange Sky Laundry and 4ZZZ.

Orange Sky Laundry was the brainwave of two young Brisbane men – Nicholas Marchesi and Lucas Patchet, who wanted to provide a laundry service for the homeless. Their venture began in 2014 with two washing machines and two dryers in the back of a van. They have now expanded to cover most cities across Australia. It is estimated that over 5.8 tonnes of laundry is washed each week.

Orange Sky Laundry is run completely by donations and volunteers from the community. Not only do they provide the service of clean clothes to the homeless, their service has a two-way benefit in giving positive and genuine conversations to everyone they meet. If you wish to volunteer or donate, more information can be located on their website.

4ZZZ is the first community FM broadcaster in Queensland and is the pioneer to playing contemporary Australian music. There are many opportunities at 4ZZZ where students and university graduates may wish to undertake an unpaid internship to become radio announcers, become a volunteer or perhaps learn more about community media. More information on internships and training can be located on their website.

Tickets for this great event can be sourced online or if you are wanting to know more about the event, you can contact Steve Howard on 0410 295 421 or email [email protected]
