One of the World’s Best Rose Gardens
Did you miss the International Rose Garden Festival in Morwell last year? Don’t worry, it’s on again. Yes, there is an abundance of roses in this well-established and beautiful garden, but the festival offers way more than that. You will be amazed at what there is to see and do.

Something for the Whole Family. Besides strolling through the gardens themselves, there will be workshops, market stalls, children’s activities, talks, landscape displays, live music and food trucks and an evening light show. Read on for the highlights of the festival. The CWA will do their famous Devonshire teas on Saturday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

Tour the Rose Garden—Anytime. Walk at your leisure around the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden. Make sure you give yourself enough time. There are over 4,000 roses across 400 varieties in 116 beds. In all, that’s four acres of gardens. Established in 1992, and celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year, these gardens were given the Award of Garden Excellence presented by the World Federation of Rose Societies. They are one of only thirty-three rose gardens in the world to hold this honour. Click here and scroll down to download a map of the gardens.

An Evening with Costa - Saturday. Join Costa Georgiadis and Cate McQuillan for a panel discussion on household sustainability practices. The show, which runs from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, is being held at the Morwell Bowling Club on Hazelwood Road. Your ticket includes a meal and drinks on arrival. A shuttle service will run from the Rose Garden Festival to the Morwell Bowling Club between 4.30 pm and 7.30 pm on the Saturday night. Click here for more details and bookings.

The Cut Rose Competition—Saturday. The competition, open to Latrobe City residents, judges a single-stem rose in bloom and showcases roses grown outside the gardens. Judging is at 2:30pm. Click here for categories, prizes and details of how to enter.

Costa the Gnome and ScrapBoy—Sunday. This one’s for the kids. The live Grubby Bucket stage show will be followed up with a mud pie bake-off. The event is free and will take place on Sunday 12th November from 12:30pm to 2:30pm in the gardens. Click here for more information.

Smart Phone Photography Workshop—Saturday. Professional photographer Taryne Fletcher will teach you how to take a great photo with your smartphone and will have plenty of tips for you to get the most out of your phone camera. The workshop costs $16.50 and will take place in the gardens from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Click here for more information and to make a booking.

Rose Flower Crown Workshop—Saturday. An all ages event to create your own rose flower crown. Wear it proudly and take it home. The roses for this event were supplied by Quite Contrary Flower Farm. The workshop runs from 3:00pm to 4:00pm Saturday 11th November and costs $22.00. Click here for more details and ticket purchases.

AGL Loy Yang Night Lights Show—Saturday. From 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm AGL Loy Yang is sponsoring a night lights show in which the gardens will feature an illuminated display. The gardens will be painted with light- bright blues, delicate pinks, vibrant greens and reds. Be part of the magical atmosphere created by fairy lights draped from the plants. Walk the paths bathed in colour.

The Festival Steam Train—Leave the Car At Home. On Saturday you will be able to travel by Heritage Steam Train to the Festival. The train departs from Newport, Southern Cross, Dandenong, or Pakenham stations. You can make this a day trip or choose a weekend package. Click here for full details and ticket bookings.
