Event:
Free museum tours to celebrate museums
International Museum Day is a worldwide celebration of museums that aims to raise awareness of the important role museums play in the development of society. In 2017 it is being celebrated on 18 May and many Melbourne museums are hosting free tours of their facilities to commemorate the day.

The theme of this year's International Museum Day is Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in museums. It looks at the role museums play in peacefully addressing traumatic histories through mediation, reconciliation and multiple points of view; and promoting peaceful relationships between people.
