For the first time in Australia, the prestigious International Garden Photographer of the Year (IGPOTY) exhibition will take place from 11th to 28th August 2011 at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney and presented by Friends of the Botanic Garden.

The exhibition will include winners of the forth IGPOTY event and a selection of the finalists as well as the winners of the 2010 and 2011 'Gardens in Focus' photography competition.

The 'Garden In Focus' is a photography competition run by the Friends of the Botanic Garden of Sydney which aims at promoting the special essence of Sydney's Botanical Garden.

According to the Executive Officer of the Friends of the Botanic Gardens, Debbie Mills says,

"The International Garden Photographer of the Year exhibition has been captivating visitors to the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew for many years. The Friends of the Botanic Gardens are thrilled to be able to bring the best of this stunning exhibition to our own Royal Botanic Garden for Sydney visitors to enjoy. ... This is an exciting opportunity for any photographer and I would urge all those budding photographers out there to pick up their cameras and start exploring those wonderful botanic gardens.."

The International Garden Photographer of the Year is an impressive event where professional and amateurs alike are invited from all parts of the world to submit their best photos. Winners and runner-ups of the competition receive a huge range of cash and other prizes available together with having a photograph displayed in its exhibition.

Philip Smith, CEO of International Garden Photographer of the Year says: "Australian photographers have played a very important part in IGPOTY from the start and we are delighted at this opportunity to share the IGPOTY exhibition with the Australian public. The Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney is a wonderful location and we are pleased to help them promote their vital work in plant conservation and research."

The fifth IGPOTY competition is now open. The closing date for submissions is 30th November 2011. Entries should be made online.
