A celebration of language and culture

"How many languages are there in the world? How about 5 billion! Each of us talks, listens, and thinks in his/her own special language that has been shaped by our culture, experiences, profession, personality, mores and attitudes. The chances of us meeting someone else who talks the exact same language is pretty remote"- Anonymous

The International Festival of Language and Culture is a celebration and appreciation of the range of linguistic talent and cultural diversity from around the world. The purpose of the Festival is to promote inclusion and celebrate diversity. The Festival is about building connections through dialogue as a fundamental step for achieving lasting and universal peace.

It commenced in 2003, with the first Festival held in Turkey with students from 17 countries. Last year, 145 participating countries were involved in the events with more than 2,000 participants.

This year, for the first time since its conception, the Festival will be held in Melbourne. It has been organised by Sirius College as part of its continued support of multicultural Australia.

The International Festival of Language and Culture will showcase our national treasure of diversity to all Australians and to the global community. Students from Melbourne and around the world have the opportunity to present aspects of their language and culture to its Melbourne audience. They will engage with the community through social, cultural and educational activities, whilst building strong ties and lasting friendships with each other.

The International Festival of Language and Culture will take place on Sunday 7th June, 2015 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Convention Centre Place
South Wharf, Melbourne, from 7pm to 10pm.

This is a free event for all ages.
