A powerful prequel

In this third addition to the Insidious series it doesn't tiptoe by the window, but instead haunts loud and noisy. The scariest instalment so far, Insidious: Chapter 3 has a simple but good script, is jumpy and will keep you at the edge of your seat. Insidious is already one of the most popular horror franchises and the latest film is a sign they can only get better.

However, since it can serve as a standalone film, it is unlikely to attract new audience to the franchise but will leave the original Insidious fans longing for more.

Set few years before the Lambert hauntings, Elise Rainier, who has now retired from helping people with her psychic abilities, reluctantly uses her powers to rescue a teenage girl who is haunted by a powerful sinister entity.

The best in the film comes first with the start 60 minutes being the scariest with a comparatively plain and anti-climatic end. Although more terrifying, the scrip is not as creative and original like the first Insidious but this time the creatures of the dark aren't shy to come out into the living world.

The film also tactfully plays the haunted-while-helpless-in-a-wheelchair card adding a chilling vulnerability to the victim.

Since this prequel is only loosely related to the Lambert haunting it also makes one wonder if the purpose of this film was to bring back Elise, who gets killed in the first film but reappears in the second to assist the Lambert family in the spirit form after her character became unexpectedly popular, leaving us wondering what the course of the fourth film will be if there is one.
