I was born with a travel bug. I virtually am a nomad, moving around all the time. Reading good authors oxygenates my body and soul. Writing brings out the element of creativity in me and leaves me astounded at my own ability.

Many a time in our lives we have to watch our funds - more so in today's economic times it helps to be frugal. A family outing can turn out to be fairly expensive and so can a birthday celebration or any other event.

1.Right in the heart of Melbourne flows the majestic Yarra River.

Being easily accessible from anywhere in Melbourne, it enables to save money on the fuel. It also helps to spend the entire day relaxing instead of driving long distance. Peace and tranquillity is unmatched. Watching others do the same is even more encouraging.

2. Barbeque facilities for free.

Along Alexandra Avenue flows the river and on the banks of the river are provided free barbeques. Pack the essential items for barbeque from home and save further more. Essential things like oil, salt, pepper, tongs, serviettes, aluminium foil, crockery and cutlery, scraper, food items, drinks etc should be brought for ease and convenience.

3. Remember to get picnic blankets, books and music.

Lush grass and magnificent trees provide ample shade when needed. Sight and scenery overlooking the river is soothing to the soul. Sit or sprawl. Just ease yourself and have fun.

4. Great opportunity to cycle along the river.

If you happen to come along with your children or your partner then carry their bicycles for a ride along the river. It will reinvigorate you all.

It will be a great activity and the long stretch will do you a world of good.

5. Walk in the Royal Botanical Gardens.

If you are tired of relaxing too much after the heavy lunch then head across the road. Locate entrances to the garden. If you are with your pets then you can bring them to the gardens as well on a leash.

Be prepared for the unexpected. The grounds are huge to cover but you can do it at ease.

6. Free parking on Saturday and Sunday.

You can stay in the vicinity for as long as you desire because the parking is free on the weekends with no time restriction. It provides you with mental freedom as it saves you from running back to feed the meter.

7. Provision for water and toilets.

Safe drinking water, toilet facilities and garbage bins and recycle bins are provided.

As a courtesy to the next barbeque user, clean it for them such that all can have a great time and not feel deprived of any pleasure or privilege on this outing.

It is also a good idea to invite a couple of your friends to spend time together.

Not only does it take the burden off the host but also enables everyone to be stress free and hassle free. Morning will turn into night without you realising it.

Go home and put aside the money that you think you would have saved by doing this outing.
