Winter Holiday Fun
Winter school holidays in Melbourne mean parents' and grandparents' minds necessarily turn to warmer, indoor activities for the kids.

With that in mind here are five suggestions for activities in and around Melbourne which will keep you warm and dry while enjoying some fun time-out with the youngsters.

CLIP 'N CLIMB
Victoria Melbourne Richmond Seymour Puckapunyal Docklands Harbour Town School Holiday Fun
Melbourne's Clip 'N Climb is a test for the climbing skills of all ages.

Indoor climbing complex Clip 'N Climb comprises 37 climbing activities plus 2 optional add-ons each requiring different skills and levels of agility. Climbers are challenged both physically and mentally but the varying degrees of difficulty for the different activities mean that it really is suitable for people of all ages.

The emphasis at Clip 'N Climb is on fun and safety. Every climbing session is preceded by a 15 minute safety briefing, all climbing apparatus is equipped with the TRUEBLUE auto belaying system, climbers under 12 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult to check their harness connection before each climb and all climbing sessions are supervised by fully trained staff.

Challenges include STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, a group of green poles with the height of each pole increasing in succession as climbers attempt to reach the highest point.

It may be a little out of the way but Puckapunyal's Army Tank Museum contains a wealth of information, artefacts and military memorabilia.

The Australian Army Tank Museum housed at Puckapunyal's Hopkins Barracks preserves and exhibits an incredible range of artefacts and memorabilia promoting the history of Australian cavalry units from the early days of the Light Horse to the present day technology of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps.

Throughout their history these units have served in the Boer War, World Wars 1 and 2, Vietnam and Afghanistan as well as peace keepers in Somalia & Rwanda and as part of INTERFET, the international force responsible for liberation of East Timor.

The more than 70 fighting vehicles and artillery pieces on display are undoubtedly a highlight featuring an example of most of the armoured vehicles operated by Australia as well as examples of American, British and even Chinese battle tanks and specialised vehicle.

Two indoor galleries display a wealth of information, artefacts and memorabilia relevant to all of Australia's cavalry and armoured units.
