The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2015 is set to land on the 14th of August and will run right through to the 27th. Flying under the banner of 'Equality', this year's theme for the festival, it'll be explored in a number of features and documentaries, including 'Umrika' winner of the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival. There'll be a focus on inequality of gender, race, disability and sexuality and how both Australia and India manage it on the screen and in society in general.

The Festival's opening weekend coincides with India's Independence Day on August 15th. To commemorate this event, the Indian flag will be raised for the first time at Federation Square to celebrate 68 years of Independence. This will be followed by an all day celebration of India's vibrant culture in the form of the Telstra Bollywood Dance Competition. If you wan't to enter the competition, you have till the 31st of July 2015 to register.

Following last year's successful inaugural IFFM awards, the day will culminate with the 2nd IFFM Awards (check nominees here) taking place at the National Gallery of Victoria which will feature a charity fashion show. Make sure you get your tickets (HERE ) to enjoy both the awards night and fashion show. They're selling fast. Iconic Indian designer Anamika Khanna along with her Australian counterparts will showcase a unique collection modelled by Australian models, celebrities, Bollywood stars and people from various walks of life. Garments will be auctioned during the evening and all funds raised will be going to The Royal Children's Hospital Foundation.

Opening night sees the screening of Australian premiere 'Umrika' (aka America), starring Suraj Sharma from Life of Pi as Rama with Tony Revolori from Grand Budapest Hotel as his best friend Lalu. Festival guests will be in attendance at the special opening ceremony of this film about a brother who goes in search of his his older brother when his letters stop arriving from America to his remote mountain village.

The closing night presents the world premier of the political thriller Phantom. It stars Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif. It's story centring around global terrorism and the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. There'll be Q&A events and Masterclasses throughout the festival with the superstars of Indian films, so make sure you don't miss out!

The Western Union (WU) Short Film Competition is underway and you can catch these films during IFFM. This event provides a playing field for aspiring filmmakers from India and Australia and this years entrants will explore the theme of 'Equality' in any way they choose. The winning films will be seen by Indian filmmaking royalty along with Melbourne audiences.
