I am a world traveller & a mom of two, (8 & 6). I love to meet people, and am fascinated that there are 7 billion stories out there to be explored. I think Melbourne is the most happening city to live in with all the fun activities around town.
Celebrating Indian Cinema
The Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM) 2016 is the talk of the Bollywood town these days. The festival is being launched on 11 August 2016 and goes for ten days till 21 August, encompassing the India Day that is celebrated in all its glory on 15 August. A fantastic line up of Bollywood stars and movies awaits cinema-lovers this year (again)!
Let's start with the historical context: the festival first started in 2012 and has been growing from strength to strength. In 2015, the festival was attended by 35000 people. This year, the event has over 50 films, in 17 languages, from box office hits to independent films, lined up from India and the subcontinent. Apart from what you can enjoy on screen, there are music, dance and public events at Federation Square and the Melbourne Recital Centre. Bollywood actress, Vidya Balan has been the ambassador for the Indian Film Festival Melbourne, and the tradition continues this year also.
The theme for IFFM 2016 is "female empowerment" and an Empowerment Concert, dedicated to the women of the world will be held on the Awards night. The Ambassador of the festival is once again Vidya Balan, a famed Bollywood star. Taking the festival one step further, a charity initiative Train the Trainers is being launched at the festival with the aim of making the lives of children with disabilities a little better.

The opening night on Thursday 11 August showcases a Gujarati movie, Parched. The film traces the journey of four women who abandon their traditional roles as prescribed by their male-dominated society.
Friday night, 12 August, just might be the biggest night of the festival, when the Westpac IFFM Awards Night is held at the breathtaking Melbourne Recital Centre.
The Flag Hoisting Ceremony will be held on Saturday 13 August at Federation Square to honour the Indian Independence Day and the special guest will be Rishi Kapoor, a Bollywood superstar reigning the industry for five decades. Join thousands to mark this event and the Bollywood stra-comp.html]dance competition.
