Hawthorn Arts Centre is offering a night of fun for all ages with their Inaugural Annual Dance Affair . Choose from 20th or 21st July and turn up with your dancing shoes and spirit of fun ready for an evening of old and new time dance.



The entertainment will be provided by a diversity of community groups, including the elegant dance group Vietnamese Senior Citizens - a group of women who arrived in Australia in the late 1970s as refugees from the Vietnam War. Leading lady Yen Bui will take her troupe through a traditional routine.

Israeli Circle Dancers will also take to the stage. This social group meets to dance in their traditional style at a reform synagogue in Kew East. A jazz class will be led by Dance Explosion - a group of dancers who have been dancing together for up to 15 years.

Bringing a different energy to the night will be the electric nine-man band Sex on Toast, with their hip-swinging synth-funk.

MC'ed by Ian Pidd, you can also expect to hear heart-warming stories from community legends, including an address from Bew Thay, who fled from conflict in Myanmar, and has led fundraising efforts to support an educational institution in his homeland.

There will also be stories of local legends featured in the award-winning commemorative book Boroondara Remembers: Stories of World War I, shared in honour of the former Hawthorn Town Hall's historic ties to both world wars and other conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

From the two-step to the tango, to a cheeky cha cha, and a waltz to funky free-styling grooves, there's a dance for everyone in this theatre meets get-up-and-dance event.
