'In the red; on the vibrancy of things' @ UQ Anthropology Museum

The Anthropology Museum at the University of Queensland (St Lucia campus) is the largest university ethnographic collection in Australia; featuring artifacts from Aboriginal Australia, Africa, South East Asia, Pacific Islands, and China.

'In the red' is the inaugural exhibition in the brand new gallery space at the Anthropology Museum. This interesting exhibition showcases over 360 'red' items including things made with feathers, ochres, seeds, shells, and red cotton cloth known as 'trade cloth'. You will find boomerangs, instruments, masks, and money.

[ADVERT]New items include two specially commissioned paintings by indigenous Australian artist Fiona Foley while items from the museum's founder, Dr L. P. Winterbotham's own collection date back to the early twentieth century. Even the gallery walls have been painted red, inspired by Henri Matisse's prominent painting The Red Studio .

'In the red' is on display until January 31, 2013. The museum is open daily to students and the general public alike, from 11:00am until 4:00pm. Entry is free.

If you would like to continue with the red theme, visit the Red Room Bar and Grill on campus and try one of their famous burgers.
