The award-winning documentary In the Name of Confucius is receiving its Adelaide premiere on Friday 20th July 2018 at Fullarton Park Community Centre. All are welcome to attend this FREE public screening; it is a rare opportunity to join people across different sectors and meet stakeholders in the local community.
Since its completion in 2016, In the Name of Confucius has won 10 international awards and nominations. It has screened in America, Canada, Poland, Taiwan, Spain, South Africa and Germany and has been described as an eye-opener of a hidden truth and a timely reminder of an important issue.
In the Name of Confucius is the first documentary to expose China's multi-billion dollar Confucius Institute (CI), a Chinese language program on foreign campuses, and the growing global controversies surrounding it - loss of academic integrity, violations of human rights codes, foreign influence, and even potential infringements on national security.
There are Confucius Institutes in 14 Australian universities and Confucius Classrooms in 67 Australian schools.
Additional screenings are being held right around Australia, and anyone with an interest in education, human rights, moral ethics, or foreign government influence using soft power, must see this investigative documentary.
The screening will be followed by an enlightening Q&A with Doris Liu, an emerging documentary filmmaker and an award-winning journalist with Mark Media in Toronto. A first-generation immigrant, Liu's passion is to tell compelling China/Chinese related stories that resonate in Canadian society and the West.
Attend this screening and discover how we should deal with the unintended outcomes of our strengthening ties with a rising Communist China, as Beijing spends an estimated $10-billion annually on "external propaganda", including the Confucius Institute initiative.
