And the winner of the best new cafe in Sydney goes to
The recent release of the Sydney Morning Herald's "Good Cafe Guide" 2014 has provided a treasure map for caffeine addicts looking for their next fix. For those bean hunters seeking the crema of the crop, In the Annex will not disappoint, given it's just been named "Best New Cafe" of 2014.

Located just next to a bus stop on Ross St, The Annex's open and airy design is welcoming, and perfect for people-watching. Once you step inside, you'll see the tiny kitchen area where all the food is made, an enticing cake cabinet filled with hubba-bubba flavoured lamingtons and fresh coconuts.

One thing that will strike you about this cafe is how adorably kitsch the decorations are, with vintage figurine toys and potted succulents on each table.

The blend in the basket is by Umami, and it's absolutely devine in a cappuccino, served in a playful monkey cup.

Like the decor, the food menu is suitably unique. We ordered the smoked salmon with poached egg ($22), the black pudding and fried egg ($16) and a steamed pork-belly bun with asian slaw ($8) just for good measure. These arrived as works of art on our table, with creative plating comparable to the hatted restaurants of Sydney that we definitely did not expect from a cafe.

The amazing food at The Annex - smoked salmon, black pudding and a steamed pork belly bun.

With amazing food that crushes all expectations and killer coffee, cafe-snobs should beware of The Annex. It may create impossibly high expectations for every subsequent cafe that you visit.
