Impro Melbourne have returned with their musical improvisation show Zombsical at the Courthouse Hotel in North Melbourne from 4-26 March 2022. Book your tickets here



Ascend the old wooden staircase to the former publican quarters of the Courthouse Hotel in North Melbourne, and be afraid, very afraid as you determine the fate of five survivors of the apocalypse.

Should they live, or should they be taken by zombies to the underworld?It's a game of 'Wheel of Fortune' who will be voted off the island next and dispensed into a zombie reality, never to return.

Each survivor pleads their case to remain on the island in song. The audience votes and the head voodoo priestess points her staff at the next victim, who is dragged away by the 'undead'. On the night I attended, the five survivors included an Artistic Photographer, an Awkward Guy, a Farm Girl, a Cheerleader, and a Big Bearded Guy. Who would you take to build the new world?

The Farm Girl knows how to rear cattle. But no – the audience voted her off early to her zombie fate. As for the Big Bearded Guy – he was gone before we could really find out his value.

What value would an artistic photographer provide in the new world? His words of wisdom and belief in beauty gave the group hope. However, hope vanishes quickly as the sun fades and the moon rises as the clock strikes midnight.

Left with the Awkward Guy and the Cheerleader, anything could happen. Are they the Adam and Eve of the new world?

This is a fun, comedic show and the improvisation of words and music can take the plot anywhere. Audience members are given skull puppets to vote on the fate of the survivors.

It is a very tame show if you want to take your 15-year-old teenagers along. But leave them at home and have a night out in the upstairs room of the historical Courthouse Hotel – it's sure to have some ghost stories of its own.
