Imagine being transported inside the story as it happens - feeling you're a part of the action. That's exactly what happens in the world of immersive theatre. The audience is seated in a room with the players and if the actors change rooms, the audience follows them. How much you want to interact with the players is up to you.

In his directorial debut, Maurice Mammoliti, brings the classic witty play, Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest to life at the stunning Melbourne mansion of Labassa and there couldn't be a more perfect setting.

All Sorts Productions** presents an immersive theatre experience of The Importance of Being Earnest at Labassa in Caulfield North with actors Ian Ferrington as John/Jack/Earnest, Patrick Hill as Algernon, Ruby Duncan as Cecily, Marie Therese Byrne as Lady Bracknell, Katharine Innes as Gwendolen, Angelique Malcolm as Miss Prism, Greg Pascoe as Dr Chasuble and Peter Helft as Lane/Merriman. The audience is first gathered in the garden and delighted with talented musicians Jonah Patuto (piano) and Elliott Plumpton (violin) on the marble-pillared veranda. This serves two purposes - entertainment and to transport you back to the 1890s where the play is set, giving you the right atmosphere.

During the course of the evening, you are invited into Algernon Moncrief's London apartment, then to the gardens of Jack Worthing's country estate, then inside the manor to witness the hilarious interactions between the players as the story unfolds. This is done using different rooms of Labassa and the outdoors.

Each member of the 8 cast ensemble works seamlessly together. You would think they were born to play these roles. Best of all is the feeling that you are really there in 1890s London experiencing it all right alongside them.



If you've never seen the Importance of Being Earnest, this experience is perfect for you. If you have seen the Importance of Being Earnest this is the perfect opportunity to see it again as an immersive theatre piece in such a location and setting.

Director Maurice Mammoliti says: "My aim is to do Edward Albee's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" and Tennessee William's "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". And you can be sure the settings will be stunning and you will be taken on a journey inside the story - certainly better than sitting in a faceless darkened audience in a traditional theatre.
