Situated in the foothills of the Darling Ranges, approximately an hour north of Perth, the Chittering Valley is one of our city's best-kept secrets, with its idyllic pastoral scenery and friendly country vibe making it the perfect place to escape to when the rat-race of city life gets too much.

Throughout the year many events are held in the area, attracting visitors from far and wide, with one of the most popular being the monthly markets and swap meet held at the Immaculate Heart College in Lower Chittering. If you're an enthusiastic road-tripper with a penchant for markets, fetes and fairs, this classic country market in one of Western Australia's most picturesque areas is an event that you'll definitely not want to miss.

Held on the second Saturday of each month, from 8.30am until 1pm, the markets are located on the College's oval and in the school hall, and feature a great range of locally-grown and made products such as fruit, vegetables, herbs, honey, jams, cakes and pickles. There are also plenty of other traditional market favourites including craft, plants, books, toys, furniture and bric-a-brac – all available at very reasonable prices.

For those who love treasure-hunting through pre-loved wares, there is also a swap meet with numerous other miscellaneous goodies. There is also refreshments available and great live entertainment – all you could want or need for a wonderful day out with the family.

Situated in Lower Chittering, Immaculate Heart College is a small independent school that only started accepting students in 2012. The market and swap meet is one of their biggest fund-raisers, so a visit will also help to support the many great projects the school is working on.

In conclusion, if you love markets and fairs, you'll definitely enjoy a visit to this traditional country market. Located at 34 Santa Gertrudis Drive (corner of Muchea East Road) in Lower Chittering, the Immaculate Heart College is situated in the heart of the Chittering Valley with beautiful views in every direction. Just an hour's drive from Perth, the valley is an easy day trip, although many city-slickers also enjoy staying an entire weekend, taking advantage of the fresh country air and delightful scenery.

Entry to the market is by gold coin donation at the gate. Whether you're looking for healthy locally-grown produce or a special and unique gift for a dear friend, the Immaculate Heart College market and swap meet is definitely a great spot to head for. Alternatively, if you're a local grower or artisan, or simply want to clear your excess possessions, this market is a terrific one to support. New sellers are warmly welcomed.
