Drivers, start your engines! Or, in this case, get your finger on the trigger for some adrenaline pumping fun at .
This is a family affair, so pack the kids in the car and burn some rubber over to Arundel. Heck, you can even tie Gran Mammy and Gran Pappy's rocking chair to the roof of the car and bring them along too. You're guaranteed to get a warm welcome from owner Jamie Kirkpatrick and partner Regan. If you're lucky you might even be greeted by the smell of sausages sizzling on the barbie!
offers three massive race tracks, each with their own challenges to conquer. Let your finger do the driving while you challenge your brain to calculate corners and tricky curves on the track. One false move will send your lean mean driving machine shooting through the air for a grand crash spectacle. When you get sick of walking around the track to put your car back into action, you'll start to work your brain harder to get better cooperation from your trigger-happy finger. The level of difficulty is controlled by adjusting the voltage to the track so young kids can enjoy a slower pace until they get the hang of it.
For the serious slot car racer, the voltage is turned up on a Wednesday and Friday night for a little friendly competition on the tracks. Competition racing requires you to bring your own car. There are two divisions run to accommodate the novice racer, and the more experienced racer. Race night kicks off with a tasty BBQ feast for those who like to socialise and make new friends before they try to outrace them.
There's a great atmosphere on race nights and a comradeship amongst the die-hard racing enthusiasts. So, how fast can these mini rockets go? Jamie has clocked one super car at 85km ph in real time. This is a 5 second lap time on a 47m track. Impressed? Think your supercharged slottie can do better? Get down there pronto and show 'em what you've got. You'll be hooked in no time. Wednesday nights usually rotate between Muscle cars and Sports cars, and Friday nights are Nascars.
For those who want a little more grunt, there are four racing simulators that offer a more realistic race experience. It's a great way to test your driving skills and harder than it looks until you get the hang of it. There's a good variety of cars and tracks to choose from and once you're really swinging you can get racing with online racers from all over the world. Headphones allow you to speak to each other (a bit hard if you're racing against a foreign speaker) and provide all the rev your ears can handle, making this as close to a real experience as possible. The steering wheel even shakes if you hit a bump. Pretty wild stuff! I found out I had a knack for drifting – onto the wrong side of the road!
