Now in its 7th year, Wollondilly’s festival of art and light is back bigger and better with the town of Picton coming alive in mid-September. There’s illuminations, entertainment and activities aplenty to wow the crowds over three mammoth days and nights.
The South 32 Art & Light Display in Picton Botanic Gardens includes a spectacular lantern parade, a sculpture and lantern display by LightnUp and a brand new South 32 illuminated photo booth. It’s an enchanting colourful evening with River Road Creative Academy leading the drumming rhythm for the parade on the festival’s first night.
In the town centre you can find light projections bringing the facades of buildings to life in a fantastic visual experience and, for a more calming immersive exhibit, the Governors Hill Sensory Garden is an illuminated zone promoting restoration in a space where you can time out and revitalise.
A further showcase of art is on display with the Illuminate Art Exhibition and the Artisan Market, where a diversity of works highlight creations from local and regional artists, artisans and crafts’ people. You can find these in Picton Shire Hall.
The MAC Illuminate Carnival sees rides, sideshow games and food trucks providing fun and sustenance at Hume Oval Sportsground. You can save $$ by purchasing
tickets online , with a single ride ticket being $6 or an unlimited rides wristband costing $30.
Other delicious food can be had at the Illuminate Food Court in Mary MacKillop Lane car park, where your taste buds will be provided with a symphony of flavours from a variety of cuisines. Food vendors include Crazy Potato, Halloumi Me, Mrs Wang’s Dumplings, Piggy & Moo, White Pearl Pizzeria, OMG Donuts, Dos Churros and a whole lot more to whet your appetite.
An exciting Illuminate Music Festival brings the vibes with live performances from local community groups and performers, including headline act Southbound xo taking to the stage in Mary MacKillop Lane. This all-female country/rock band has been described by Triple M as “AUS-Country’s Hottest Supergroup”, so watch out for them belting out tunes.
On the Shire Hill Lawn, check out more of the talent from River Road Creative Academy with performances and workshops during the day and watch on in the night as the LED hula hoop and spectacular fire shows wow onlookers.
Other event items on the agenda include a Jazz & Swing afternoon, a roving poetry performance and a show-stopping fireworks spectacular lighting up the sky. Each day/night offers something different, so plan ahead and check the
website for timings and venue locations, etc.
