Wollondilly's premier arts and cultural event, illuminARTe is returning in 2017, illuminating the historic town of Picton with building projections and showcasing the region's art and music scenes.

The theme of this year's festival - Animate, Activate, Generate - will set the tone as Picton comes alive with colour, light and excitement, creating a spectacular cultural event for the community and visitors.

Local artworks will be projected on to some of the town's landmark buildings to create a VIVID-style festival of illuminated art and light displays. Make sure you check out the following buildings on the night:

  • Old Picton Post Office
  • Old NAB Building
  • John Digger Furniture Store
  • Wollondilly Shire Council
  • St Anthony's Church
  • Picton Town Square Building
  • the Evergreen Tree

  • To add further colour to the festivities other buildings throughout town will be bathed in coloured lights.

The illuminARTe Art Exhibition will be held at Wollondilly Shire Hall in Menangle Street Picton. Curated by Wollondilly Arts Group, the exhibition showcases the artistic diversity of the works created by regional & local artists, artisans and crafts people. Visitors are welcome to get involved by having a vote in the Peoples Choice Award. The Art Exhibition will be open from Friday 28th April until Sunday 30th April. There is a fantastic line-up of performers and entertainment this year. There will be local school students performing on the main stage as well as the following headline acts:

4pm - The Voice 2016 Winner, Alfie Arcuri

6pm - the Lieder Theatre company will be performing an Acrobatic Fire Show featuring 14 fire manipulators/acrobats/performers
7pm - Aussie country rock band, But 4 Grace

Once again families and children can enjoy the Family Fun Day at Picton RSL Park on Argyle Street. Hosted by the Picton Chamber of Commerce and Wollondilly Shire Council the Family Fun Day will run from 2pm - 9pm and will include a community BBQ, jumping castle, puppet shows, face painting, performances by local dance students and the following childrens entertainers:

3pm - Childrens group The Beanies
5pm - Sam Moran - from Nick Jr's Play Along with Sam and former Yellow Wiggle

Throughout town there will be many market and food stalls to browse as well as the local shops, cafes and restaurants. Other highlights of the event that you won't want to miss are the Lantern Parade and the Fireworks display. The Lantern Parade, commencing at 7pm, involves children and adults proudly marching with paper lanterns they have made in workshops. From 9pm everyone can enjoy the spectacular conclusion of the event - the fireworks display.

Now in its third year, the event is hugely popular, with last year's festival attracting more than 25,000 visitors. For more information and updates on the festival you can follow on Facebook here.
