Most Korean drama is set in Seoul, with tall buildings and traffic jams as a backdrop. I’ll Go to You When the Weather is Nice (2020) mostly captures the countryside, with old traditional buildings, paddy rice fields and mountains as the backdrop.

This drama based on a 2018 novel by Lee Do-woo and is about cellist Hae Won (played by Park Min Young) who takes refuge in her home country town after being treated unfairly at her workplace in Seoul. She was living in this small countryside village when she was a little girl. Everything is still the same in this village. Some people left the village but then decided to come back, including Eun Seop (played by Seo Kang Joon), the owner of the small, independent bookstore in this village. Hae Won and Eun Seop both went to the same high school in this village.

Directed by Han Ji Seung, there is a lot of beautiful cinematography captured behind his lens.

Each episode peels the past of Hae Won and Eun Seop. There are lots of flashbacks and little by little, the truth of what makes them who they are in the present is revealed. Everything is uncovered, layer by layer through 16 episodes of I’ll Go to You When the Weather is Nice.
