The area around Norwest is often known as a business district. So it came as a surprise when my husband and I visited a waterfront Italian restaurant called IL Lago for dinner.

As we strolled from the car towards the restaurant, we were amazed at the sight of a wonderful lake with ducks paddling across and small model boats spinning gently around in the breeze.

There was a fountain that gushed water into the air and situated at the other end of this lake was the Sydney Ice Arena .

There were other restaurants along the boardwalk and there were businesses scattered around parts of the lake, but it did not detract from this surprising scene in the midst of a commercial area.

IL Lago has indoor and outdoor seating areas with gorgeous views across the lake. There are two seating times for small groups of people, 6.00 pm and 7.30 pm. There were pre-booked tables for larger groups who appeared at various times. We arrived for our 6.00 pm booking and the waiter showed us to our table indoors.

We shared a very tasty brushetta and enjoyed the view while waiting for our mains. About twenty minutes later, our meals arrived. I had ordered the Smoked Potato Agnolotti with Rabbit Ragout and Peas. It was a very interesting flavour yet absolutely delicious.

My husband had the Special which was Veal in Tortellini with Jerusalem Artichoke. This dish was full of flavour. Some of the pastas at IL Lago are not freshly made but I was assured by staff that the Agnolotti and the Tortellini pastas were freshly made. I am no expert, but the silky smooth taste of the pastas tasted freshly made.

Desserts, of course, are always next when I dine out. When I visit restaurants, I peruse the dessert menu first before making a choice from the main menu. Do you also look at the dessert menu first?

My husband chose two scoops of the gelato, which were lusciously delicious. I hovered between ordering the Cherry Ripe My Way dessert or the Fried Apple and Cinnamon Ravioli with Rhubarb Compote and Vanilla Bean Gelato. The Fried Apple Ravioli sounded interesting. When I took my first bite, I was not disappointed. It was a fabulously scrumptious dessert.

After this dining experience, we decided to take a walk around the lake. The weather was calm and warm, there were small groups of people on seats overlooking the lake, people jogging along the pathway, and parrots noisily making a home for the night. It was a relaxing end to a wonderful evening.
