I am a writer living in Adelaide. I love food and travel.
A value-for-money buffet indeed
To celebrate the Swedish midsummer, IKEA Adelaide hosts a delicious buffet dinner in June each year. This year it was held on Friday the 22nd of June 2018. The two and a half hour event features a selection of entrees, mains and desserts as well as cold and hot drinks.
For entrees, we had the salmon gravlax open sandwich and the egg and shrimp. The salmon was served with senap dill sauce. The egg and shrimp was served with dill mayonnaise and seaweed pearls. Both were a good light start to the meal.
For mains, there were many cold and hot selections to choose from. And in order to not have to make a decision, we went ahead and asked for a little bit of everything. So we ended up with baked salmon, chicken meatballs, Swedish meatballs, vegetable balls, roasted vegetables and prinskorv sausage. They were all lovely but my favourite was the baked salmon. Its crust was beautifully spiced and it was accompanied by roasted brussel sprouts and hollandaise sauce.
For desserts, we had three varieties of Swedish cakes, a rhubarb & raspberry crumble and a lingonberry & orange biscuit trifle. I especially loved the trifle which was just a nice finish to the meal. And of course, a bottle of sparkling apple and lingonberry drink to wash it all down.
