Quite often we feel we need to travel to exotic faraway lands to be 'romantic'. For those of you who can't necessarily afford to jump on a plane and whisk your loved one off to a romantic overseas destination, good news, romance can be found in your own city. I recently organised a '40 Things' weekend for my husband for his 40th birthday. Here is a snap shot of 'must dos' for a romantic weekend getaway in the heart of Sydney.
Book a night or two at Sheraton on the Park directly across from Hyde Park
161 Elizabeth St, Sydney
Early Yum Cha lunch at Mr Wongs
3 Bridge St, Sydney
Get shopping – Pitt Street Mall and QVB. Don't forget to stop by Kinokuniya for some serious book browsing and buying.
Level 2, The Galeries, 500 George St, Sydney
Afternoon tea at S Bread – delectable and fresh pastries and sweets. Grab a tray, choose a selection of yummies for a very affordable price, go for a romantic stroll through Hyde Park, pick a tree and sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
HSBC Center, Shop 8/580 George St, Sydney
Book dinner at The Hero of Waterloo at The Rocks. Catch a cab it's a bit of a walk especially if you are in heels. I highly recommend the grilled haloumi and the mussels.
81 Lower Fort St, Millers Point
Go grab a drink at SG Bar (Spooning Goats), also known as the 'Star Wars' Bar. It's perfect for the Stars Wars enthusiast, with various movie related items on the walls and front window, not to mention the hand painted mural under the staircase as you walk to the front door. The highlight was the old school arcade games i.e. Pac-Man and Space Invaders.
32 York St, Sydney
Take in a Solemn Choral service at St Mary's Cathedral. It's just beautiful to listen to and a gorgeous way to start off your Sunday morning.
St Marys Rd, Sydney
Have a walk through Hyde Park Barracks Museum
Queens Square, Macquarie St, Sydney
