Ramen. Ramen. Ramen. If you are up for awakening your tastebuds with the delicious noodles in broth the Ichiban Boshi at Bondi Junction is up there for some cheap and cheerful sustenance.
Define ramen: noodles in broth/soup often flavoured with Miso or soy.
Famous with its Japanese and other nationalities alike this establishment is tenable. Located in the Oxford St Mall just moments from the train and bus terminals transport is easy. Diners beware dinner time is its peak and expect to fight for a table. The service is quick and the turnover high. Everything is prepared with care.
Signature ingredient: roast pork.
We added additional veggies for the added vitamins; choy sum and mixed vegies for $2 and $3 respectively. **Generally, all ramen have some form of vegetables included whether it is delicious sweet corn, bean shoots, dried seaweed or shredded leak.
Rice-eaters you have some options too with the usual Japanese suspects – Karrage chicken, Katsu-don and Unagi (eel) sets. Udon specialists this place has a good staple – but, it is a noodle place so don't over-expect!
Other entrees on the menu include agadashi tofu, pan-fried gyoza and edaname beans.
What's the hit to the pocket?
Entrees are $5-7, Ramen for one comes in between $10-14 and Rice/Fried or Udon between $10-$15.
WARNING: This fine establishment is cash only – but ATMS are available in abundance within a short walking distance.
Note: if Bondi Junction is not your thing there is also a sister restaurant at The Galleries Complex in the Sydney, CBD. Menu is the same and equally as pleasing but, expect longer waits.
