Despite the fact we have been having some prolonged warm weather of late in Newcastle, we are in for a treat over the next five weeks. Ice World Australia is coming to town and setting up another amazing outdoor ice rink. No more do we have to pine over those American movies where they carve it up on a frozen lake after a sip of toasty egg nog. All we need do is head on down to Wheeler Place near the Civic Centre, and boot up.

There is a fee though and with a family, costs can elevate but there are some deals on the website available. Adults are $22, kids under 16 and students (with ID) are $17. Family passes (1 adult, 3 kids or 2 adults and 2 kids) are $65. It is also compulsory for kids under 10 to wear a helmet which is included in admission. A $5 off voucher (which can be used for up to 2 people) can be downloaded from here .

How do you ice skate better? Apparently the key is to relax, don't jerk around, just move gracefully. There are more tips on the Ice Australia website - including the all important "how to stop" which for me usually means just falling on my backside. The idea though is to have fun.

The rink will be operating at Wheeler Place from 6 April to 12 May, 2013.

So what are you waiting for?
