The story of French Glaciologist Claude Lorius unfolds thanks to French Director Luc Jacquet, a decade after his Oscar-winning (best feature documentary in 2006) 'March of the Penguins' which earned $127.4M worldwide.

The two men have something in common aside from their love for Antarctica. They both experienced more or less the same thing 40 years apart. Both men saw a poster that changed their lives.

When Jacquet read 'Student needed to spend the winter in Antarctica' at the University of Lyon, like Lorius, he also thought "Oh, I'm going to go on an adventure to Antartica"......but in the end, it took him much further than that. For Lorius it was science, for Jacquet, it was cinema.

Claude Lorius the French Glaciologist first went to the Antarctic in 1956 and ended up devoting his extraordinary life to unravelling the world's climatic secrets by digging deep into the ice. He pioneered the study of ice cores to identify and understand the impact man had on global warning.

With 22 expeditions to both poles over the course of nearly 30 years, this scientist-turned explorer was the first to raise a red flag on global warming and man's role in climate change back in 1965. Needless to say it was met with strong scepticism by authorities and the media.

The film, written and directed by Jacquet and produced by Richard Grandpierre has already been nominated for a Golden Eye during Cannes.

Made rich not just with archival footage, this documentary boasts spectacular views and breathtaking adventures captured through drone cinematography.

This is the kind of film that will live in your memory, a gift from Jacquet about a scientist and his world-defining research.

An inspirational figure, watching Lorius on screen is akin to watching a prophetic ethereal figure, especially in the aerial shots as he surveys a receding icy ridge, or stands mournfully amid rising seas.

Ice and Sky is an engrossing, deeply lyrical and poetic film, made with the depth and romantic spirit that the French are so renowned for.

Make sure you don't miss this one with its amazing and powerful message and imagery.
