This summer Ice Age is back with its fifth instalment Ice Age: Collision Course! The 4-year long wait is over.
The trio of Manny, Sid and Diego are back, for this movie directed by Mike Thurmeier along with Galen T. Chu.
The leading voice actors such as Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifah, Keke Palmer, Jennifer Lopez, all reprise their roles from previous films.
Ice Age: Collision Course
The story sets years apart from Continental Drift. Now the ice world is threatened by the asteroid attacks. The herd is forced to leave their damaged homes and try to overcome the attack from the sky. It is a difficult and long journey. Some obstacles are awaiting for them too. Would the herd survive once again from a disastrous event?
Ice Age series is always evolving whether its characters or its story. There are always new characters added in each film alongside the regular characters.
The heart and soul of the franchise is always Manny, the woolly mammoth. He was shown at a different stage of his life in each film: the trio met and bonded (Ice Age), he found love (The Meltdown), he had a baby (Dawn of the Dinosaurs), he dealt with his teenage child (Continental Drift). And now he is a middle aged guy and Peaches is a young adult.
Ice Age's director Chris Wedge also returns with the funniest character, reprising his role as the nutty sabre-toothed squirrel, Scrat. Though Scrat does not interact directly with the rest, he is always the one who pulled the triggers of disastrous events. Indeed, he is an important pillar of Ice Age series.
Meets familiar supporting characters such as Crash (voiced by Seann William Scott), Eddie (Josh Peck), Buck (Simon Pegg), and Granny (Wanda Sykes).

Some new characters were introduced in the second half of the film. One of them is Shangri Llama, a yoga-loving llama. He is also the spiritual leader of Geotopia, an amazing world that had never seen before in the series.

While the film started with a serious tone, its tail end has some humorous and entertaining moments. Listen to the catchy My Superstar sung by Jessie J, the British pop star, who had lent her voice to Brooke. You make me happy You give me laughing You make my world a better place

It seems to promise a whole heap of fun and laughter, and definitely suitable for families and friends to enjoy bonding. The main bulk of the funny moments as usual came from Scrat's silly adventures in pursuit of his acorns and the wry wit between the trio. It's proven a successful formula for the series.
Some take-home messages in this film are accepting others just the way he or she is, the importance of family, teamwork, learning to love again, and letting go of emotional baggage. Its story is always about family values and friendship.
Like many other Hollywood blockbuster series, the franchise relies their lucks on the fans. Though it is unlikely to be the highest grossing animated film this year, it is worth to watch this 3D computer-animated family adventure film.

If you are a big fans of Scrat, don't miss the hilarious opening story about the creation of our solar system! And don't leave the cinema before the credits have finished.
