We had an early Monday morning flight from Sydney to Alice Springs so decided to stay overnight on Sunday at the . As a family of four, it can be difficult looking for inexpensive accommodation in Sydney. There are three Ibis hotels near Sydney Airport but I chose the Budget one as it was for one night only and it's only a 10 minute walk to the domestic terminal.

We chose to get two buses to Mascot as bus tickets are cheaper on Sunday's. It was then a 10 minute walk to the Ibis Budget. This hotel is next door to McDonald's, KFC and Krispy Kreme so there's no shortage of cheap meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The rooms for a family of four are a little cramp. There is a double bed and a bunk bed. A desk and chair were in the corner of the room with a TV above the desk. To our relief, there was a window with a superb view - over the carpark! Not much of an outlook, that's true, but at least there was a window. The bathroom was small, it reminded us of the size of a cruise ship's bathroom.

When booking a room, I would suggest asking for a room further away from the lifts, as it was noisy from people-traffic till about 11 pm, then the clamouring starts up again around 5 am when travellers are leaving the hotel for their flights. The walls are also thin so if there are visitors in the adjoining room who are talkative, then it can be loud. In saying this, though, we all got a good night's sleep from 11 pm - 5 am.

The Ibis Budget has continental breakfasts available for $9.00 from 5 am to 10 am.

We chose McCafe next door but the cost of McCafe compared to the Ibis Budget breakfast would be a similar cost. Dinner is also available for purchase at $12.50.

Overall, it is budget, as the name declares. It is close to the airport and to eateries or the hotel's eat-in options. I booked the hotel through Booking.com and it was $119 for one room. Not a bad price for Sydney, particularly if you're after a transit hotel.
