Situated on Barkly Street, just moments away from the thriving nightlife and activity hub of Acland Street, i Carusi II is St Kilda's little piece of Italy.

The charm of this pizza restaurant is quite simply its boutique size and southern Italian authenticity. As you dine, snippets of Italian conversation between the staff wafts through the room and mouth-watering aromas fill the air.

The menu is all about the pizza, with a number of simple yet delicious options, and both tomato and white ('in bianco') bases are available. Traditional antipasto such as cold meats are on offer for starters, side salads that make the perfect accompaniment to pizza and dessert pizzas for those who are after a devilish treat.

I Carusi offer Apertivo on Sunday evenings from 5:30pm, which really appeals to the Italian tourist in me, and is a good option for those who are just after a drink and a light bite to eat.

The staff are accommodating and while we managed to get a table without a booking, I would recommend planning ahead as there are limited seats in this little space.

My only complaint would be that this restaurant does not have a BYO option, which I thought inappropriate, especially after the wine I ordered was served to me in a water tumbler.

This place is a fantastic dine-in option for couples, small groups and families, or for those who would rather relax on the couch, I Carusi II offer the same menu to take home.
