I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.
The Hyatt Regency Sydney is a recently renovated 892 room four star hotel close to the CBD. Most of the rooms are of ample size and comfortable with modern decor. Some rooms have balconies and stunning views over Darling Harbour. The hotel is large and provides facilities suitable for travellers, business people and group functions with 21 meeting rooms and 2 ballrooms.
The lobby is bright and large including the lobby bar and a piano lounge. The check in/ out is handled efficiently and personably at separate reception desks making for a more private experience. You can check in at 3 pm and 11am is the generous check out time. $100 security will be held on your credit card when you check in. Sailmaker restaurant is up a flight of stairs and is quite spacious even during the busy breakfast service. For $38 pp there is a large variety of fresh, healthy and cook to order options situated at many individual food stations.
The location of the hotel is its best point. It is an easy walk to Kings Street Wharf, the shops, bars, entertainment and dining options of Darling Harbour. The new International Convention Centre is close by on the other side of Darling Harbour for those in Sydney for concerts, conferences and exhibitions.
All the usual amenities are provided in the room including toiletries, Wi-Fi, pay for view movies, minibar and room service dining. The bed was very comfortable and I found my Darling Harbour view room in the older part of the hotel to be very quiet. There is a 24/7 fitness facility but no pool. Valet parking with unlimited entry and exit is provided for $75 and there is a Wilson parking station opposite that may offer a more suitable option.
The historic buildings on Sussex Street have been sensitively incorporated into the hotel and provide an interesting architectural statement. Although a very large hotel the Hyatt Regency still has personality and is a good place to stay especially if you manage to get a good deal from a booking website.
