After a hard morning of shopping therapy at the Camberwell market we went in search of food fuel. There were closer places but they were noisy, busy and the outdoor eating seats in shaded areas. On our way through to Burke Rd we walked through the Hush, Hush Café. It was warm under the glass atrium, had comfy couch seating and dining tables and a sign advertising pasta dished for $12. Bingo!

I was pleasantly surprised when the chicken and avocado pasta arrived promptly. I love my food hot and this was really hot. It must have literally been rushed from the saucepan to our table. The chicken was very tender, there was the right amount of avocado and the pasta was cooked to perfection.

Without overstating the quality I'd say it was probably the best Pollo pasta I have ever had. I did ask for small but it was huge. My surprise at the size was noticed because the waiter kindly offered to package any left overs to take home.

My friend ordered the pasta Cabonara that he commented had a unique delicious smoked bacon taste. I was slow to take the photo but it was also quite large especially for $12.

I was very keen on the salads but glad we didn't order them, as we couldn't finish our meals as it was. I noticed that lots of people had ordered soup. The bowls were more like salad bowls so the meal would have been hearty enough for the whole day.

I was a bit disappointed because the sweet treats (from only $2) were so tempting but I couldn't squeeze in another mouthful of anything. There were predictable favorites like yo yos, brownies, truffle balls and kids' smarty biscuits but I liked the look of the orange and macadamia slice.

I'll have to go just for coffee next time. They have a muffin and coffee for just $6. Then again the Turkish pides and paninis looked worthy of a try, if a tad too big for one person.

The Hush Hush café provide newspapers and magazines for a long leisurely lunch and quotes on each table to ponder on. Here was ours:

During my basic research I discovered that the Hush Hush cafe often have specialties for a week. The curry week sounds like fun and the kids would love Parma week. They also cater for vegans.

The drink range is definitely a selling point. They have organic almond milk and you don't see that very often. If you'd like to try something different you might like to sample one of their most popular detox drinks – the Green Smoothie. This is an unusual healthy combination of kale, celery, spinach, basil and banana for $6.

The Hush Hush café is not on any main strip so you will have to seek it out. With friendly service, tasty, hot and reasonably priced food in a relaxing warm atmosphere, you can't go far wrong. It's one of Camberwell's best kept secret cafes… but not for long. I am starting a Chinese whisper. Get in before it gets too busy to get a table.
